Northwich Station has been a hive of activity lately with 30 art panels designed by local school children now on display on the Chester and Manchester bound platforms. The art work has been produced by children from schools in the Northwich Education Partnership for their annual art project with the theme being a “Sence of Place.” The panels depict iconic views from Northwich and the surrounding areas such as The Plaza, Paddling Pool off the Chester Way and St Helens Church as well as hidden gems in the surrounding areas such as Neumann’s Flash and the famous Weaverham daffodils.
On Friday 18th October Northwich station welcomed around a hundred guests to mark the grand unveiling of the artwork by town Mayor Cllr Kate Cernik who then stayed to chat with the attending school children. Andrew Cooper MP also stopped by to show his support for the project.
The ever-helpful Friends of Northwich Station were on hand in their orange high vis to hand out cakes to the visitors, marshal the car parking and lend a helping hand to the guests. They`d pulled out all the stops a couple of days previously to spruce the station up in preparation for the event.
A special thanks should also go to ISS who put the panels up free of charge as part of their support for community projects and also to the following-The children and teachers from the Northwich Education Partnership, Cllr Catriona Stewart who designed the panels, Cross Country, Northern, Network Rail, ISS, Northwich Town Council, and Visual Arts Cheshire, Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership and last but certainly not least Friends of Northwich Station.
The artwork certainly brightens up the station and will give visitors to the town a real sense of place and some inspiration for places to visit.
