All board for the Queen’s birthday weekend!
The railway industry’s celebration of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.
Something really special is happening over the weekend of 10th, 11th and 12th June 2016. Millions of people will be celebrating HM The Queen’s 90th birthday and, at the same time, celebrating the vitality and creativity of our communities.
Railway Stations sit in the heart of British communities. For the first time in history, they are joining together with organisations like the UK Scout Association, the Women’s Institute, and the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, providing a stage to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth II’s milestone birthday, and offering a wonderful array of activities as part of the nationwide celebrations. The event is titled ‘Station to Station Queen’s Celebration’ and is anticipated to be one of the biggest events to be hosted by the UK’s rail industry in living memory.
With a staggering range of festivities at more than 90 stations there will be something for everyone – from Mad Hatter’s Tea Parties to community markets; Postman Pat parades to art displays; carnival queens arriving by train to bowls competitions; brass bands to station-to-station cycle rides; artisan food markets with mouth-watering cakes to face painting; live music to family picnics. Station to Station Queen’s Celebration will see stations across the UK throw open their doors to welcome the UK public for a weekend of free celebrations.

“Over the past 120 years the rail industry has played its part in sculpting the way we live in the UK. Through the passion and innovation railway stations will now once again play their part in galvanising communities and bringing sustainable social and economic growth. Therefore I cannot think of a more fitting tribute to HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations… have a wonderful day!”
Pete Waterman Record Producer
“As someone who spends half her life on trains, I’m delighted to see the enthusiasm with which the rail industry has embraced HM The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. Stations should be all about community, so to see all these stations come together in so many imaginative ways is quite thrilling. As many in the industry will know, I’m keen to raise awareness of all the opportunities that exist for young people in rail and here’s hoping that one of the legacies of these celebrations will be that more recognise and seize the opportunity for an exciting and varied career. TeenTech and myself are very much looking forward to working with all the partners on this project.”
Maggie Philbin BBC Presenter
“I am delighted that at last the rail industry is finally putting its head above the parapet and demonstrating the social and economic impacts the industry brings to society. What a great way to celebrate this momentous occasion whilst promoting the vast array of apprenticeships and careers on offer.”
Nick Hewer TV Presenter.
