Millions of people will be celebrating HM The Queen’s 90th birthday, and at the same time, celebrating the vitality and creativity of our communities.
Railway Stations sit in the heart of British communities and for the first time in history, they are joining together to provide a stage to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth II’s milestone birthday, providing a wonderful array of activities as part of the nationwide celebrations.
With a staggering range of festivities, there will be something for everyone from: Mad Hatters Tea Parties to community markets; Postman Pat parades to art displays; carnival queens arriving by train to bowls competitions; brass bands to station to station cycle rides; artisan food markets with mouthwatering cakes to face painting; live music to family picnics.
The key theme amongst all our events is to offer YOU – the community – a place to gather and wave your Union Jack flag in celebration.
Whilst celebrating our Queen’s birthday, we are also highlighting the importance of our local public transport. Railways should be at the heart of sustainable communities, with stations being much more than somewhere you get on and off a train – places where people can meet, chat, have a cup of tea. In other words, hubs of the community and shop windows or gateways in and out of local areas..
Our ‘Station to Station’ event is bringing together community groups, community rail partnerships, train operators, Network Rail, and a wide range of rail industry organisations. We’re united in saying that railways have never been more important for communities – and the rail industry wants to go further in highlighting its importance to our country.
So come and join us in a great celebration.
On the Mid Cheshire Line we are currently organizing events at Knutsford and Manchester Piccadilly railway stations.
The Queen’s Celebration website will show you where events are taking place with something happening near you!
Put the 11th & 12th June in your diary and join the fun whilst playing your part in this historic event.
